Description
We could all use a bit more harmony in our lives, don’t you agree? Well this lovely yarn might not be able to chase away life’s troubles, but it will feel soothing against your hands!
This colorway was inspired by a sand mandala being created by Buddhist monks. The monks create gorgeous mandalas out of colored sand with painstaking detail. Each mandala will have a theme or will revolve around a specific deity. The sand used is a dense sand or very finely ground stone, gypsum is often used; this limits the destruction of the design by a sneeze or the wind. At the end of the ceremony or festival that the mandala was created for, it is swept away by the deities first and then the rest of geometric design. The sand is then collected in a jar, wrapped in silk fabric, and taken a body of moving water, such as a river, and returned to nature. This is to symbolize the shortness of life, that tomorrow is never promised. The wonderfully detailed inspiration photo that you see was taken by my incredibly talented web designer, Rachael Albers, at a conference in California. If you have ooh’d and aww’d at my website, you can find more of her work here.
This yarn color is primarily a reddish-pink, golden yellow, and sky blue. The colors mingle nicely at their mixing points to give just a hint of orange, and green. This yarn base is a combination of alpaca, linen, and silk and has wonderful drape!
